Claire Gilmore has been appointed Traffic Commissioner for Scotland by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling. She will take up the post following the retirement of incumbent Joan Aitken in February 2019.
Mrs Gilmore will join from the office of the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland, where she is currently Senior Investigating Officer. She is a lawyer, with substantial experience in regulatory litigation, and she is also a qualified engineer.
Mrs Aitken was appointed Traffic Commissioner for Scotland in 2003 after the retirement of Michael Bett.
Prior to that, she was the Scottish Prison Complaints Commissioner (Ombudsman) from 1999 and she has served as a part-time chair of employment tribunals, disability appeals tribunals and child support appeal tribunals in Scotland.
