Devon’s night bus network, which is operated by Stagecoach South West, is marking its 30,000th passenger since its launch in 2023.

The services across Exeter, Plymouth, Torbay, Cornwall and North Devon are delivered in partnership with Devon and Cornwall Police, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and other stakeholders.

The OPCC funds eight of the 10 Devon night bus routes, with Torbay Council financing the Torquay and Newton Abbot services.

Since expansion in 2025, the network operates on Saturday nights from midnight until as late as 0400hrs.

Stagecoach South West says the service has supported the night-time economy while reducing drink and drug-related incidents, antisocial behaviour and violence against women and girls.

Peter Knight, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, says: “Reaching 30,000 passengers is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates just how valuable these services have become for communities across the region.

“The night bus network provides a safe, affordable and sustainable way for people to travel late at night, and we’re proud to continue supporting communities through safe and accessible transport.”

Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez adds: “It is an incredible achievement that the night bus services across Devon and Cornwall have ensured 30,000 passengers have safely got to and from home.

“Due to high passenger numbers, my office has committed to continue being the main funder of night buses where they are most needed throughout 2026. This would not have been possible without the support of our local transport providers.

“The services have contributed to a reduction in antisocial behaviour and violence as well as drink- and drug-drive cases. It is also reassuring that no incidents have been reported on the buses themselves, again showing how effective they are.”
