To launch its 90th anniversary celebrations, Telford-based Elcock Reisen has commissioned a special edition of handmade Merrythought of Ironbridge teddy bears to celebrate its roots in the historic gorge.
The business is now run by MD Jenny Elcock, while Merrythought, a family business established in 1930, is run by MD Sarah Holmes.
The Elcock name has long been associated with the area, since John and Harriet Elcock opened a greengrocers and game dealers in Ironbridge’s High Street.
After the First World War John Elcock began to transport people as well as produce.
Early charabancs were soon in operation, before coach-built vehicles were brought in and the familiar red and grey fleets appeared on the local roads.
As the popularity of coach transport grew so did MH Elcock & Son Ltd, expanding operations from Telford.
Now internationally known, Elcock Reisen in its silver, red, and gold livery is a familiar sight. It runs a full programme of holidays, short breaks and day trips.
