One of the bus industry’s top sales executives, Richard Matthews (pictured), has been appointed Head of Sigma Sales at Mellor.
Richard joins the Rochdale-based manufacturer after significant time spent at Alexander Dennis (ADL) where as Sales Director (Retail Coach and Bus) he saw year-on-year growth over the previous decade. His other previous roles include a General Sales Manager role within ADL and a senior Parts Directorship with Optare.
According to Mellor, Richard’s key attributes are an intimate knowledge of the bus fleet sector and its customer requirements. The appointment comes as the manufacturer looks to develop a “new model to the benefit of operators and customers alike”.
Says Richard: “I’m extremely excited to be taking on this new challenge. Sigma represents a refreshing new take on how bus operators deliver eMobility solutions for their communities. Sigma is designed and built as a dedicated EV – from the ground up – which means efficiencies, such as lightweight construction and the integration of best-in-class components from leading manufacturers, are built in.
“Sigma is going to be a game changer, and I’m very much looking forward to introducing the successful Mellor ethos that promotes lightweight, size and cost-appropriate buses as a value-added proposition on our journey to zero-carbon with new and existing customers.”
The Sigma line-up of battery-electric vehicles comprises six models with a number of width and passenger door configurations, in what Mellor calls the “largest range of low-floor battery-electric vehicle buses from any manufacturer in Europe”.
