Debut for high-spec tourer generates lots of interest; first production batch due Q1, says Pelican Yutong
One of the most eagerly-awaited debuts at EBE was of the Yutong GT12, and dealer Pelican Bus and Coach reported strong interest in both the new touring coach and its established TC9 midi.
“We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback on the GT12 but that should be seen against the nature of the coach. It has been designed specifically for the European market,” says Pelican MD Richard Crump.
The GT12 has broken cover in 12.1m form with up to 53 seats and a toilet, but one early buyer intends to reduce capacity with the installation of tables after arrival in the UK.
Power is from the latest-generation DAF MX-11 engine rated at 450bhp coupled to a ZF EcoLife gearbox.
The first stock batch of 20 GT12s will arrive here in Q1 2019 and a number are already sold, adds Mr Crump. It is planned that a 12.8m variant will follow later next year and a tri-axle is also on the roadmap.
Pelican also reported success for the 9.3m TC9 at EBE. Two customers’ vehicles were on its stand and it sold a number of others at the show.
The existing 12.1m TC12 will remain part of the UK market after the GT12’s arrival. Pelican plans to market it as a simple and cost-effective ‘no frills’ coach.
