Offences were detected when a minibus was stopped at a racecourse

A Shrewsbury minibus operator has been banned for three years after wrongfully undertaking work for hire or reward.

At a Birmingham Public Inquiry Traffic Commissioner (TC) Nick Denton heard that David Davies, trading as Wem Daves Transport, ran a minibus with a class 5 MoT for private vehicles rather than the required PSV MoT certificate, and the O-Licence disc in the windscreen was a photocopy.

The16-seater, driven by David Davies’s brother, Colin Davies, was checked at Ludlow Racecourse.

Colin Davies’ driving licence did not permit him to drive vehicles on hire or reward. He did not have a driver DCPC and was not using a tachograph.

Colin Davies claimed he was driving some friends to the races. David Davies was at the racecourse driving an eight-seater private hire vehicle.

David Davies claimed that the eight-seater driven by him was being charged for, but the 16-seater was being provided free.

Banning Mr Davies and revoking the O-Licence, the TC said the claim that the customers had paid £400 to hire the eight-seater and that he had provided the 16-seater free of charge was, frankly, risible.
