Lynda McDairmant (formerly Lynda Denton), well-known to the industry from her previous role at Gretna Green Ltd, has started her own marketing company, Tell Tale Marketing.

Lynda McDairmant: ‘All change’

She will offer marketing and communications advice and hands-on support to businesses in the travel industry as a freelance consultant.

Ms McDairmant says: “I've been part of the tourism and hospitality industry for nearly 25 years, latterly 19 years with Gretna Green Ltd. I have many great friends in the industry and remain passionate about group tourism.

“Over the years I've shaped stories to convey the spirit of a destination's brand to inspire people. I think it worked, with group travel visitor numbers always on the up for my previous employer.

“My experience in shaping brands through the story, how and where to get the message out there, and my enjoyment of interaction with people in the industry, I hope will stand me in good stead.”

Ms McDairmant has been active on social media sharing her story as she builds her own business.

Less than two months after her first 'introduction to business start-up' workshop, Ms McDairmant has already named her business, built a website and has been busy spreading the word. “I am already immensely proud of the progress I have made,” she says. “I feel like a new person, and that is why I also chose now to return to my family name, McDairmant.

“I was a new single mum with two toddlers when I began working at Gretna Green, so I kept my old married name for ease. It's a fresh start, so all change!”

The logo was designed by her son, Fergus Denton, who is just out of university with a Bachelor degree in 3D Modelling and Animation.

Ms McDairmant chose the name because “it sums up how I see the essence of what marketing a business is: you have to select your audience in line with what you are offering, and decide how best to reach out to them. But the fundamental factor that is at the heart of all businesses is not simply what you do or what you sell, but who you are; your story.

“Harness that and build a robust brand identity that resonates with customers, and success will follow. Building engaging stories and making sure they are communicated effectively is my passion.”
