Moving People is a further coach operator to gain DVSA Earned Recognition accreditation. The Blackburn-based business, with services including home-to-school, coach hire, day trips and holidays, was officially added to the list of scheme members on 24 June.
Earned Recognition allows operators to demonstrate high adherence to compliance standards by sharing key driver and vehicle performance indicators with DVSA. Moving People is another member of the independent coach sector to achieve membership and is the only private hire and home-to-school transport specialist in Lancashire to be part of the scheme.
Moving People, which transports more than 4,000 pupils every day, highlights how it undertook a rigorous independent audit to gain the accreditation.
Glen Chamberlain, Managing Director, says: “I am incredibly proud of the whole team. Obtaining this accreditation would not have been possible without the continued commitment from everyone involved. We’re lucky to have such a fantastic bunch of drivers, mechanics, and office staff working to move people safely and compliantly.
“I often relate this to a school or college opening the door to Ofsted or the Department for Education and providing them with virtually live performance data of an organisation’s performance.
“Therefore, the systems and processes that back up our day-to-day operations need to be effective and robust to ensure we maintain continued compliance.
“The obligations and regulations surrounding a bus or coach operator are significant and stringent. However, the issue lies in that there is very little, comparatively speaking, in the way of checks to monitor compliance and road safety, making it very difficult for a customer to know who they are really booking.
“In practice, operators are frequently asked to confirm their own compliance but are very rarely checked, resulting in widespread and systemic failings which put passenger safety at serious risk.”
