National Express will add 7,500 seats capacity to its network on 7-9 May to cater for expected higher patronage due to rail strikes.
The scheduled operator will offer extra services on its most popular routes as 19 rail companies are hit by industrial action.
It follows a boost for National Express earlier this month when it laid on 100 extra departures for rail strikes on 5, 6 and 8 April.
The business cites such staff walk-outs and a rise in rail fares for a 25% rise in passenger numbers in 2023 compared to the previous year, with 19 million on board in total.
John Boughton, Commercial Director for National Express UK & Ireland, says: “The rail strikes have been a fantastic opportunity for us to highlight just how good our coach services are, especially to those who may not have considered travelling with us before. People are making the switch because we’re reliable, great value and they’re guaranteed a seat. That makes us very attractive compared to the train.
“With significant investment in our services and improvements to the customer experience, we are making it even easier for people to travel without having to worry about unaffordable fares or constantly wondering if the trains are running. National Express is the smart way to go!”
