RHA held a Parliamentary Reception to promote driver welfare and facilities in Westminster yesterday.
Officially launching its Guide to Maintaining Driver Health – Keeping Drivers Fit for the Road, the trade body raised awareness of the importance of coach and HGV operators considering the mental and physical health of their employees.
RHA says drivers are being asked to work under conditions that employees in other industries would not be expected to endure.
Topics covered in the guide include diet, neurodiversity and lifestyle, and it offers practical steps to help operators improve the work environment.
In opening the reception, RHA Chair Moreton Cullimore said: “We have been persistent, evidence-led and constructive, and that approach has delivered some quality results.
“We must be honest about the challenges that remain and the need for continued engagement to address them.”
Keir Mather, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, was among the speakers.
MPs signed an open letter to the Prime Minister calling for improved facilities for drivers ahead of planned changes to the National Planning Policy Framework.
