Stagecoach launches Chargd to open up electric chargers to fleets

Stagecoach has launched a new B2B electric charging service branded Chargd to utilise spare capacity at selected depots across the UK.

The initiative will allow third-party fleets to power vehicles during the day at seven locations initially, with the network set to grow.

Facilities support large-vehicle access, high-capacity power, and rapid charging, with selected sites able to cater for eHGV charging.

Chargers which are purpose-built for commercial use are available at the Stagecoach depots in Inverness, Oxford, Cambridge, Kilmarnock, Ash Grove (London), Stockton, and Dover.

Debra Goodwin, Chief People and Customer Officer at Stagecoach, says: “We’ve spent years electrifying our own fleet at scale, and we know that charging infrastructure is one of the biggest barriers facing businesses on that same decarbonisation journey.

“Chargd is about using that experience to go further, opening up our depots and providing practical, reliable charging that works for real-world fleet operations.

“This isn’t a future concept. It’s live, it’s scalable and it’s designed to help businesses make the switch to electric vehicles with confidence.”

Stagecoach notes that, since 2021, the business has invested more than £500 million into battery-electric vehicles and infrastructure as part of a goal to eliminate tailpipe emissions in its fleet by 2035.

“At a time when organisations are under increasing pressure to reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency, Chargd provides certainty and reassurance,” adds Debra.

“Whether it’s for last-mile deliveries, utilities or telecoms servicing, or other businesses operating large fleets, Chargd offers a robust access to reliable, large-scale charging infrastructure.”

Stagecoach says it will expand the Chargd network in line with customer demands.

It follows First Bus officially launching its equivalent offering, First Charge, last year, having already become the first bus operator to make its chargers available to the public.
