Stagecoach Bluebird has now carried over six million passengers on its 35-strong fleet of battery-electric buses in Aberdeen.
Those BYD Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV models have been operating in the city for around two and a half years. They are utilised on urban services including the flagship 727 route to Aberdeen International Airport, and as of the start of June had seen 6,196,218 passenger journeys.
Stagecoach North Scotland Managing Director David Beaton has described the six million passenger journey milestone having been passed by the battery-electric fleet in Aberdeen as “a fantastic achievement” for the business.
In May, Stagecoach announced that its near-term greenhouse gas emission targets had been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The group was supported in developing those targets by consultancy Net Zero International.
Carbon reduction commitments include a 55.6% reduction in scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by FY2032, with a 54.6% reduction in scope 3 emissions compared to FY2019 levels in line with the latest science on 1.5 degrees centigrade global warning. Stagecoach will also continue to source 100% renewable energy through to FY2030.
Speaking about those figures, Head of Sustainability Greg Ritt says: “We are delighted that our near-term commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have been approved by SBTi as aligning to the latest scientific evidence on climate change.
“There is much work to do, but SBTi’s validation strengthens further our sustainability strategy commitments to minimise carbon emissions and support the prosperity of the local communities we serve.”
