Tomorrows Travel has taken delivery of its first new vehicles in a pair of Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double-deck buses. Such an investment represents what the Poole operator says is a dawning of a new era for its customer offering.

The business will celebrate only its third birthday in early 2026. Each Enviro400 carries the operator’s distinctive purple livery. They promptly entered service with 75-plate registration marks on 1 September.

Commercial and Engineering Director Jay Thornton tells routeone that the new buses have been bought to replace older seatbelt-fitted double-deckers in the Tomorrows Travel fleet. Demand for high-capacity vehicles is rising and the Enviro400s each seat 85 passengers.

“Additionally, we have won multiple additional school and college contracts and have retained the existing contracts we had, which these buses will be used on in addition to private hire,” he continues.

New vehicles were chosen “to enhance the fleet, increase our offering, improve reliability and subsequently reduce costs,” adds Mr Thornton.

“We are starting to see the disadvantage of utilising older vehicles, even though they are well-maintained, on front-line, long-distance work,” he continues. Tomorrows Travel has invested almost £1 million in 12 months to meet client demands.

Success in the education market has left the Dorset business as the second-largest school and college contract operator in Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding areas.

Delivering quality, choice and reliability to customers while making smart investments for the future in a competitive but broad marketplace was a further influence on the decision to go with new vehicles, says Mr Thornton.

“Our clients have looked to us for quality, reliable, high-capacity solutions for longer distances alongside our executive coach fleet and we have delivered every time,” he continues.

“We recognised that there was a need over want to shift towards a brand-new double-decker fleet earlier than we initially anticipated to counteract future problems with operating older vehicles on front-line work for long hours at distance while ensuring that all of our fleet is seatbelted and distance capable in comfort.”

Specification elements on the newcomers include the builder’s new digital cockpit, a PSV Accessible Information Regulations-prepared PA and sound system, Journeo CCTV equipment, and alloy wheels. Alexander Dennis says that the Cummins B6.7 engine is uprated to suit longer-distance and higher-speed operations.

Tomorrows Travel Operations and Finance Director Jason Cousins underlines that the two Enviro400s represent “a proactive investment.”

He adds: “We need the best years these vehicles have to offer and we have committed to brand new investments slightly earlier than we had planned to bolster the business that we can move forward with and develop in the current shifting and competitive climate,”

Alexander Dennis Regional Sales Manager Mark Taylor has thanked Tomorrows Travel for its business. He notes that Mr Cousins and Mr Thornton have “infectious” enthusiasm for their company and the industry.

“These two new Enviro400s will mark the beginning of a new era at Tomorrows Travel, giving customers a comfortable journey in a modern, class-leading vehicle – I wish them both every success going forward.”
