Leading mobile ticketing app provider Passenger has announced the launch of its new QR schema, allowing for seamless integration with electronic ticket machines (ETMs) used by coach and bus operators.
The development comes as a result of a collaboration with UK-based ticketing technology provider TransMach, which has implemented the QR schema within its TM500 on-bus and TM930 handheld ETMs.
The innovate QR technology simplifies the ticket validation process for drivers, enabling them to quickly determine whether a mobile app ticket is valid. The new QR schema offers detailed instructions for ETM providers on validating app-based tickets.
Minesh Vandra, Director at TransMach, expresses enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: “We’re delighted to be working with Passenger to offer this new integration to our shared customers. By collaborating, we’re able to solve some of the bigger industry challenges we face collectively. We look forward to rolling out the solution for customers.”
Passenger now offers the QR schema to any ETM provider interested in implementing QR scanning capabilities for operators. Dan Claydon, Product Manager at Passenger, says: “We’re excited about this integration for our myTrip app customers with TransMach ETMs on their buses.”
Passenger further reveals that the popularity of QR codes in mobile app-based tickets has skyrocketed as operators increasingly use them to drive revenue growth through business to business channels, such as ticketing arrangements with colleges and universities. The trend marks a shift away from the previously dominant smartcard-based tickets. QR-enabled mobile apps offer instant distribution, secure validation and the added convenience of passengers needing on their mobile devices for ticketing.
