Scania will celebrate 30 years of partnership with Irizar in the UK coach market with the special edition Treinta model. Using the Spanish word for thirty, the vehicle combines the latest-generation chassis from Scania with Irizar’s i6S Efficient body completed to a custom specification, and it is limited to 30 examples.
A mix of two- and three-axle Treinta coaches will be offered, with a choice of PSVAR compliance or readiness. The first are currently in build with Irizar and the initial example – a demonstrator – is planned to be at the UK Coach Rally in Blackpool over the weekend of 1-2 April.
“Each Scania Irizar Treinta will be individually numbered and come with its own badge,” says Scania UK Retail Sales Manager Bus and Coach Lee Wale. He has developed the specification of the special edition and highlights that some are already sold.
Those customer coaches will start to arrive in May and other Treinta examples will potentially be available from stock from June onwards. Where PSVAR readiness forms part of the specification, they will come with an additional door but no lift or destination displays.
Three cabin colour schemes will be offered and the specification includes extra padded seats with half-leather trim.
Side glazing will be black rather than the usual extra-tinted and the coaches will have wood-effect flooring, USB charging points and Eco3 air purification units.
The first Scania Irizar i6S Efficient constructed for the UK – shown in mid-2022 – is largely to Treinta specification. The package includes the rear-view cameras debuted on the i6S Efficient, which Irizar noted at launch is its most technologically advanced coach yet.
Scania said last year that experience of an operator in Sweden with the next-generation coach chassis coupled to an i6S Efficient body had delivered a double-figures percentage reduction in like-for-like fuel consumption. Mr Wale believes that the Treinta will prove popular among buyers and that it suitably represents the three-decade relationship between Scania and Irizar in the UK.
