Blue Badge Guide Barbara Barwick-Nicholson passed away on 25 April.
Barbara was a Blue Badge Guide for Yorkshire, Northumberland and Durham, well known by many operators and drivers. She was also a freelance tour manager and worked for many companies organising itineraries and tours for groups and individuals.
We used to run a pantomime tour as we had our own company called Carefree Travel and we decided to do our last one after 25 years because Barbara was coming up to 80-years-old, and I was in my 80s. She retired in January 2015.
In February 2016 Barbara was diagnosed with stomach cancer and underwent chemo and major surgeries.
The funeral took place on 9 May and she’s buried in Haworth cemetery because she had a great affinity with the Brontë Sisters.
Barbara gave everything 110%. She wouldn’t stop learning things and qualifying for new things. She was a member of the Order of Women Freemasons and about seven years ago she qualified as a Toastmaster and was a member of the International Guild of Toastmasters.
We did such a lot together – she will be greatly missed.
