Barnet Community Transport (BCT) is among early customers for Mellor’s updated Tucana II, which is built on the Volkswagen Transporter T6 chassis. It has taken two, partially funded by the Community Minibus Fund and the Jesus Hospital Charity.
BCT previously purchased the original Tucana, which like the Tucana II has a front wheel-drive layout and a full low floor. Positive feedback from drivers and users was one of the reasons that BCT returned to the Rochdale-based minibus specialist, says CEO Richard Healy.
“The Tucana II was the obvious choice as the most capable and suitable vehicle. Our previous Tucanas have served us for six years and are still going strong.
“The excellent qualities of the VW engine, the automatic gearbox and power doors are why drivers like the buses, and the community appreciates the comfortable interior and ease of access. We always get the highest standard of build from the team at Mellor.”
BCT has specified a flexible seating arrangement including a rear ramp to permit access by wheelchair users.
