VDL Bus and Coach says it will assure continuity of service for customers in Scotland and Northern Ireland via its wholly owned, Barnsley-based VDL Bus and Coach UK business after closure of the Moseley Distributors dealership.
An orderly shutdown of Moseley Distributors was announced by Managing Director Jim Tweedie in 2022. The Airdrie firm had previously achieved a strong presence among Scottish coach operators with sales and support of the VDL Futura FHD2 model, among other products.
As part of the change, former Moseley Distributors man Nick Armstrong (pictured, second from left) has been recruited by VDL Bus and Coach UK as Sales Manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Mr Armstrong was previously responsible for Moseley Distributors’ commercial activities for vehicles and parts in Scotland.
Service and parts support for VDL customers in Scotland and Northern Ireland will be coordinated centrally by VDL Bus and Coach UK. Operational backing “is guaranteed in close cooperation with a network of service partners,” the parent Dutch company says.
VDL Bus and Coach UK Managing Director Darren Dowsett adds that work to establish the support network in Scotland is already well underway. It includes both independent coach specialists and the DAF dealership network.
A structural solution is still being finalised for representation among Northern Irish operators Until then, support will be delivered directly from VDL Bus and Coach UK in Barnsley.
The Dutch manufacturer has thanked Mr Tweedie for his work with the VDL brand, describing it as “good collaboration.” Before announcement of its closure, Moseley Distributors had exclusive representation for VDL sales and support in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Closure of the Airdrie business marks the end of the Moseley name in the UK coach supply industry and follows the earlier closure of the Moseley (PCV) and Moseley in the South dealerships.
