ZF has manufactured the 500,000th example of its Traxon automated manual transmission at its plant in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Traxon production began in 2014. It succeeded the AS-Tronic as ZF’s automated manual offering for heavy applications, including in the coach sector. Manufacturers including Irizar, MAN, Van Hool and VDL offer the unit. ZF says that Traxon delivers a top-line efficiency of up to 99.7% and can reduce fuel consumption over a comparable manual gearbox by up to 8%.
In addition to production in Friedrichshafen, pre-assembled transmissions are delivered to Brazil and China for assembly. Traxon also has ZF’s PreVision GPS-based shifting strategy capability to maximise efficiency.
Says Senior Vice President Driveline Systems Winfried Gründler: “Traxon is now a globally produced success story offering next level transmission efficiency standards. Passing the half-million systems mark in just one of our production facilities is a powerful achievement that further underlines ZF’s global technology systems leadership.
“Combining our deep transmission expertise as well as our advanced digital capabilities will ensure that vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators continue to gain real added value with Traxon, now and in the future.”
