Passengers travelling with Carousel Buses can now work out how much CO2 they save by choosing the bus over the car.
Called the carbon calculator, it is one of several features the company has introduced on its new website. Integrated with the operator’s app, it allows for a “smooth digital experience” for customers and was created following feedback to bring better menus and live information to users.
Buses can be tracked in real time on a digital map, while passengers are able to better plan routes and buy cashless tickets online. Digital QR codes can be sent forward to mobile phones to be scanned when boarding.
It falls into part of a plan to make bus travel more accessible and sustainable by integrating web-to-mobile e-commerce, alongside improved digital offering and live travel information.
Other features include real time departure information on all Carousel Buses’ services and for other operators such as First, Arriva and Red Rose.
“This is a significant step in our on-going strategy to provide passengers with a first-class service and experience,” says Carousel Buses Managing Director Phil Southall. “Additionally, it helps with our commitment to making bus travel as accessible and sustainable as possible.
“Technology helps us provide access to key information quickly and clearly for passengers. It also provides cashless and contactless payment solutions. Technology is always evolving and this investment enables us to stay at the forefront of the market.”
