Stagecoach Manchester has launched 32 BYD ADL Enviro400EV battery-electric double-deckers in the south of the city. They represent an investment of £16.5m.
The operator has put a further multi-million-pound spend into infrastructure and to satisfy power requirements at depot level. The buses use smart charging, which limits loadings on that equipment and maximises availability. Each Enviro400EV can travel 190 miles between charges.
Says MD Elisabeth Tasker: “We are very proud to have worked in partnership with Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, Transport for Greater Manchester and other key organisations to secure the investment needed to roll out the region’s first battery-electric double-deckers.
“This is the latest example of what can be achieved by working together. We will continue to build on the major progress we’ve already made with more customer improvements such as next-stop announcements, wi-fi, contactless ticketing and live journey information.”
The 32 Enviro400EV buses for Stagecoach Manchester complement two already in service with Stagecoach in Cambridge.
