Last week’s routeone sought possible reasons for the difficulty in recruiting drivers.
Mark Cooper’s excellent letter a few pages in offers the answer, at least for those drivers who venture into London.
It is having to drive around looking for somewhere to park because Westminster Council has decided, on a whim, to suspend parking bays.
It is being forced to sit in your vehicle shivering if you do find a bay, as you are forbidden to run your engine for a bit of warmth in the cabin for fear of being fined, yelled at, or both.
Mark might also have mentioned CCTV cameras, ready to fine any mistake.
Or it could just be the general hostility with which coaches and their drivers are treated in the capital thanks to the LEZ and ULEZ.
I have refused to go anywhere near London for years. If I am to be treated like a criminal, I expect to make a profit that is commensurate with crime.
I would imagine this view is shared by anybody foolish enough to consider becoming a coach driver.
