Abellio London Bus Fleet Manager for Battersea depot Mike Harvey has received an MBE in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours List for his services and dedication to his team and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During that time, Mr Harvey took the lead for the operator on new safety measures and processes to support the delivery of its services on behalf of Transport for London, and implemented new processes to keep passengers and drivers safe.
In addition, and despite being at high risk himself, he supported staff members and their families through illness and loss, advocating for family members to support colleagues who have suffered life-changing COVID-19 impacts.
Mr Harvey was born in Jamaica in 1960 and has worked for Abellio London Bus for seven years. He previously served in the Royal Navy, where he became an anti-submarine warfare specialist, and has also competed in top-level athletics. After leaving the Navy, Mr Harvey gained an engineering degree. He has also achieved two world bodybuilding titles.
Speaking on the recognition, he says: “I am deeply honoured to receive an MBE from the Queen for my work during COVID-19. I am humbled by this award. I was supporting my teams and their families and I would do the same again in a heartbeat.”
Adds Abellio London Bus Managing Director Jon Eardley: “Mike is an inspiration to us all and a credit to transport workers everywhere. His dedication to customers and the team during the pandemic helped to keep people safe.
“The support he provided to his team and their families during an incredibly difficult time, despite the risks to his own health, is truly worthy of this great honour from Her Majesty the Queen.”
