Chalkwell Coaches of Sittingbourne has responded to the government’s decision not to extend free school meals this half-term by donating £250 to its local food bank.

The donation is to support families in the region who may rely on the service for food support.

“As a local company we thought we would take this opportunity to give something back to the community,” Managing Director Roland Eglinton says. “Many parents, guardians and children support our bus services, some of whom may need to use this vital facility. Our donation will go a small way to making sure people have access to supplies when needed.”

Swale Foodbank offers to provide emergency food and support to people in crisis. Started in 2012, it is part of a network of foodbanks supported by the Trussel Trust. The project is funded by local churches and community groups working together to stop hunger.

Donations to Swale Foodbank are always gratefully received at the charity’s GoFundMe page, or at their donation points in supermarkets Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and local Co-op stores.
