A bus driver has been praised after an elderly man with dementia needed help in Haymarket Bus Station.

Michael Harrison, from Arriva’s Jesmond depot, saw the gentleman looking confused, and spoke to him.

He found that Alec James, aged 86 had misplaced his bus pass and couldn’t get home.

Michael stayed with Alec until his daughter picked him up.

Michael says: “Dementia is very difficult to spot. As part of our training we were advised to look out for signs of vulnerability, confusion and distress.”
