Duncan Cameron has been appointed Managing Director of First Bus operations in Scotland on a permanent basis. He has acted as interim MD since May 2021 when Andrew Jarvis was elevated to the post of Portfolio Managing Director as part of the group realignment of its UK operating companies.
Mr Cameron is responsible for the group’s Aberdeen, Glasgow and Scotland East businesses with a combined workforce of over 3,000. His career with First Bus began in 2001 as a graduate trainee and he progressed to senior roles including Operations Director with First Essex and Managing Director of First Aberdeen. After a two-year spell in the haulage and logistics industry he returned to First in 2016.
Commenting on his permanent appointment, Mr Cameron says: “Since taking the interim role, I have been inspired by the resilience and dedication of the First Bus team in Scotland. Our ability to provide services across the network is testament to their commitment to keeping communities connected and I would like to thank them for their efforts.
“Despite the challenging circumstances, we have remained focused on our commitments to provide a safe, affordable and sustainable transport service. We continue to move closer to achieving zero emissions by 2035 through investing in new electric and hydrogen vehicles. Our immediate focus remains on navigating our way out of the pandemic and improving service levels for our customers.”
Adds Mr Jarvis: “Duncan’s experience, focused determination, passion and positive leadership style have already proved highly effective since he stepped into the role on an interim basis in May last year.
“His approach and handling of the challenges that the company has faced over the months is one of the many reasons he has been officially appointed Managing Director, and I wish him all the best as he continues in the role.”
