The Go-Ahead Group has further bolstered the proportion of women on its board with the appointment of Sharon Flood as an independent non-executive director. Her arrival strengthens the group’s leadership and enhances its governance, it says.
Ms Flood joined Go-Ahead in October. She is also chair of its audit committee and brings what the group describes as “a wealth of expertise in finance, strategy and consumer-focused businesses, alongside deep industry knowledge.”
Her career so far includes executive and non-executive roles. She currently serves on the boards of Getlink, where she chairs safety and security; CityFibre as chair of audit; and the Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust.
Ms Flood has also been a non-executive director at Network Rail, where she served as chair of the audit committee and treasury, and chair of environmental sustainability.
An earlier addition to the Go-Ahead board was Mackayla Hanney. She is Chief Commercial Officer at Kinetic and represents that major shareholder. Ms Hanney has led significant growth at Kinetic, including the purchase of Go-Ahead and of Go Bus in New Zealand.
She brings what Go-Ahead terms “valuable commercial expertise and a proven track record in strategic merger and acquisition, tender processes and stakeholder engagement, which supports Go-Ahead’s growth aspirations in the UK and internationally.”
Appointment of Ms Flood and Ms Hanney, along with the addition of former Transport for London Director of Buses Louise Cheeseman as a non-executive director on 1 July, means the group’s board now has 40% female representation.
Speaking about the latest senior recruits, CEO Miguel Parras says: “We are delighted to welcome Sharon and Mackayla to their new roles on the board of the Go-Ahead Group.
“Their extensive knowledge and experience will be invaluable for us as they play a vital role in supporting our management team to deliver its strategic plan of growth, achieving our ambitious decarbonisation and equality targets, and most importantly, delivering on our mission of connecting people and communities around the world.”
