Miles Dorrington is to retire from his full-time role as Traffic Commissioner for the West Midlands.
Mr Dorrington, who had been in the position since 2022 – initially in an acting capacity – will become a Deputy Traffic Commissioner in the West of England area.
Tim Blackmore, the current Traffic Commissioner for the North East, will be deployed in the West Midlands while continuing to provide support in his former traffic area, the Office of the Traffic Commissioner further revealed.
The TC’s office will recruit for the vacant North East position as it bids to “ensure continuity of service” across the country.
Senior Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney says: “I would like to thank Miles for his significant contribution to the traffic commissioner team and his dedicated service to the West Midlands traffic area.
“Throughout his time in office, he has brought considerable experience, sound judgement and a strong commitment to upholding road safety and fair regulation.
“I am pleased that Miles will continue to contribute as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner, providing valuable support to colleagues in the West of England.
“I am also grateful to Tim Blackmore for his flexibility in taking on deployment to the West Midlands while continuing to support the North East towards its transition to a new full-time Commissioner.
“These arrangements will ensure that all traffic areas continue to benefit from experienced leadership while we undertake recruitment.”
Mr Dorrington adds: “It has been a privilege to serve as Traffic Commissioner for the West Midlands.
“I have worked alongside dedicated colleagues committed to maintaining high standards across the industry and protecting road safety. I look forward to continuing to contribute to this important regulatory function as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner.”
