Morgan Stevens has been promoted to the position of Managing Director by Newport Transport.
He steps up from Operations Director and succeeds interim MD David Jenkins, who returns to his role as Finance Director. Mr Jenkins held the top position on an interim basis since the departure of former MD Scott Pearson in late 2023.
Mr Stevens has been with the municipal operator for over 15 years. He began his career as a route inspector before progressing and had been Operations Director for a decade.
The business credits him with rebuilding and diversifying its portfolio since 2020, with that now including operations in 10 local authority areas stretching from Cardiff to Hereford, the Forest of Dean and Bristol.
Coach operations have also grown significantly, including in private hire and scheduled work on behalf of FlixBus. A successful deployment of large numbers of zero-emission vehicles has also been completed.
Speaking about his elevation, Mr Stevens says: “I would like to thank the board of directors for the opportunity to further develop my role in the business.
“The company has changed significantly from when I joined, but we have never lost sight of our vision, which is to provide high-quality, good-value services to our customers and communities. None of this would be possible without the hardworking, dedicated team of people I am proud to work with.”
Results in the 2024 Your Bus Journey survey by Transport Focus placed Newport Transport as top among participating operators in Wales for overall passenger satisfaction, with a rating of 89%. As one of two municipal operators in Wales, it will mark its 125th anniversary in 2026.
