There was special ‘guest’ at a nostalgic presentation to mark longest-serving Reading Bus employee Roger Tuggey’s 50 years of work.
For an AEC Regent 3 double-deck bus that he had worked on in his early days as a fitter’s mate with the operator, and on which he passed his PSV test first time as a 23-year-old, was brought to the presentation at the Great Knollys Street depot in Reading.
Roger, now 65, started working with Reading Buses at its then depot in Mill Lane and when the company still had trolley buses. But after their demise, he subsequently worked on eight or nine different vehicle types.
He became a semi-skilled fitted fitter and wouldn’t change his career for any other and has no plans to retire.
“I work three days a week and in addition to my allotment I actively preserve vehicles as a hobby.”
