Chalkwell Coach Hire Managing Director Roland Eglinton will again don his running shoes on Sunday 1 March as he takes on the Olympic Park half marathon in east London.
Mr Eglinton has a history of raising funds for good causes through his hobby of running. For the Olympic Park half marathon he is seeking to generate money for the Mereworth and Kings Hill scout group in Kent to help provide experiences for young people in scouting and assist them in gaining skills for life.
Donations in support can be made via a JustGiving page. They will go towards providing equipment such as tents and camping materials, or to directly fund experiences. At the time of writing, the £250 target set by Mr Eglinton had already been exceeded but he is seeking the backing of friends and colleagues in and around the industry to further that.
“Scouting helps young people to gain confidence, have fun, and be part of an organisation that helps the community,” the Chalkwell chief says, noting how in recent years he has completed several half marathons and two full marathons, including the London Marathon.
The Olympic Park half marathon will start and finish at the 560-acre Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which hosted the 2012 London Olympics. The route passes venues for that event before heading out onto adjacent roads.
In 2025, the winner completed the course in little more than one hour and 11 minutes, with over 3,300 people having participated in a variety of entry categories.
