A Stagecoach South bus driver in Hampshire has retired after 24 years of service, drawing to a close a career marked by strong community ties and a commitment to supporting colleagues.

Karen Falvey, based in Aldershot, joined the bus sector in 2002 after being made redundant from a warehouse role. What began as a chance decision developed into a long-standing career in which she became a familiar and well-liked figure among passengers.

Over the years Karen built relationships with regular passengers citing that daily interaction as a key part of the role’s appeal.

Alongside driving duties, she contributed to workplace improvements, particularly when it came to supporting other women in the industry, and served as a health and safety representative.

Karen’s time in the role also led to a personal milestone, having met her partner — fellow driver Terry Field — who mentored her early in her career. The pair have been together for 24 years.

Reflecting on her career highlights, Karen points to the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Farnborough Airshow.

“Karen has made a huge contribution over the past 24 years,” comments Marc Reddy, Managing Director of Stagecoach South. “She’s been a fantastic ambassador for Aldershot, known for her warmth, professionalism and dedication to both customers and colleagues. We thank her for everything she’s done and wish her a very happy retirement.”
