Bedford Borough Council (BBC) used the latest software from QRoutes to optimise its school transport services.
QRoutes software assessed the most efficient routes and vehicle utilisation as part of a reorganisation of Bedford’s schools. The overhauled services are saving BBC more than £200,000 per annum in transport costs.
“With budget restrictions and policy changes we knew we had to review the council’s client transport network,” says BBC Chief Officer for Transport Chris Pettifer.
“We needed software that could support the process of generating the best routes and vehicle sustainability in view of all the complexities of school, special needs and social care transport.
“QRoutes provided an easy-to-use interface that not only re-planned our network in minutes, but was available as an affordable solution via the web.”
BBC’s budget cuts required a cut of £150,000 per annum, but QRoutes delivered a total cut saving of £215,000.
