Freeway Fleet Systems app delivers KPIs to fleet managers

Freeway Fleet Systems has developed an app that gives coach and bus fleet managers instant smartphone access to maintenance and compliance KPI data.

It adds business analytics insight to Freeway’s award-winning ‘fleet in your pocket’ app that was launched in 2019. The new product uses moveable display tiles to show key information such as:

  • Inspections carried out
  • Defects found
  • Rectification work completed.

Those tiles bring to the fore key data, but they also act as buttons. The user can touch them to access further details information and, if required, initiate an action.

From a tile that shows critical defects, the user can click to the assets in question. They can then click further to see the actual defects. From there, rectification work can be assigned immediately. Other tiles show first user checks with access to status information such as awaiting inspection or VOR.

The app also displays smartphone-optimised tables and graphs. They include a calendar of scheduled workshop jobs and a pie chart showing the current status of critical defects rectified. Tile data is continually updated from the centre system. The app can be customised so individual tiles can be displayed or hidden for any user.

Freeway Fleet Systems Managing Director Patrick Tandy says: “Even before the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis, managers wanted more mobility so they could work from anywhere. Initially our ‘fleet in your pocket’ app was designed to sign off purchasing orders and to manage workshop activity. However, as people started using it, we were inundated with requests for more functionality.

“The challenge for our developers was how to deal with this volume of information on a small phone interface. We came up with the idea of tiles as the gateway to drill into further information and provide the route to actions.”

At Coach and Bus UK 2019, Freeway Fleet Systems won the Gold Award in the Innovation Challenge for the ‘fleet in your pocket’ app.
