Fleet transport insurance broker McCarron Coates is inviting members of the coach and bus industry to join it at a mock motoring trial to be staged in Birmingham on 23 January.
That is the centrepiece of an event called Trial by Roadside – the Corporate Cost. It will be held at The Council House and is organised by Freight People in partnership with LMP Legal. McCarron Coates is headline sponsor as part of ongoing work by the supplier to highlight to clients the importance of risk awareness in fleet operations.
Delegates will hear evidence and witness statements and determine in their own minds whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty. During the mock motoring trial, key messages will be picked up and lessons learned, the supplier adds.
Alongside opportunities for attendees to network and discuss the mock trial, there will also be scope for operators to share best practice and discuss their own approaches to some of the scenarios that arise. McCarron Coates’ team will also be on hand to offer advice.
Director Ian McCarron (pictured, right) describes the mock trial as set to serve as “an eye-opener for many of those in the ‘public gallery’.”
He adds that observing proceedings will highlight to delegates how what could be everyday occurrences within a fleet or among driver behaviour “can suddenly create a situation that escalates, and which jeopardises a driver’s liberty or a fleet’s future if unaddressed.”
“It should also underline the intention behind motoring law and the sentencing that applies to it,” continues Mr McCarron.
Fellow Director Paul Coates (pictured, left) adds that the mock trial “really should erode any complacency that exists with regard to compliance and ensure that all attendees go away with lots of food for thought and things to put on the risk management action plan. It is a brilliant way to drive home messages relating to commercial driving.”
Any industry member wishing to attend the mock trial as a guest of McCarron Coates should contact Mr Coates or Mr McCarron on 0113 298 3489.
