Michelin has introduced the Smart Predictive Tire solution to the UK. It says that the product will allow operators of commercial vehicles to monitor, manage and proactively anticipate tyre-related maintenance issues.
The system monitors pressure and wear and delivers to the operator real-time alerts that are more efficient and accurate than manual checks, Michelin says. It combines data from the tyre pressure monitoring system, drive-over tread reading technology and telematics returns with predictive algorithms to create those insights.
Such an approach allows what the supplier adds is better scheduling of tyre maintenance with tyre service providers and a reduction in roadside tyre-related events. Fleets that utilise the technology can run tyres for longer by accurately tracking tread wear while remaining confident that the tyres will remain safe, legal and fuel efficient.
Smart Predictive Tire was piloted by Michelin in Spain during 2023. Data from real-world results showed a reduction in tyre-related incidents of up to 80%; a 10% improvement in tyre life; and a 3% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Speaking about the product’s expansion to other markets, Michelin Connected Fleet UK Sales Director Maxine Dupuy says: “Smart Predictive Tire is the first time we have combined our knowhow in connected fleet solutions and our expertise in tyres and services with our own technologies to bring added value to our customers.
“Michelin Connected Fleet helps to improve operators’ performance, simplify maintenance, increase the uptime of assets, and reduce their environmental impact.”
