Novadata has introduced a new Driver CPC course for 2025, Driver CPC Driving Standards and Road Safety. It counts for seven hours towards both National and International qualifications and is equally suited to PSV and LGV drivers.
The supplier says that the course will examine “the root causes of accidents” and how personal characteristics (including driver behaviour) can affect driving risks. Novadata adds a hope that by raising awareness of the impact that an individual driver can have on road safety for other road users, better practices and greater safety will be encouraged.
Included are an exploration of the considerations that should exist around vulnerable road users and an assessment of the potential consequences of an accident for both the driver and any victims, as well as the impact on both of those parties’ families.
Bridge strikes and how they can be reduced forms part of the course content. A further part of that work is examination of the impact of such an incident on employers, transport providers, and the public.
The most common causes of road traffic accidents – such as speed, driver behaviour, recklessness and driving while tired or under the influence – are tackled, and the course emphasises the importance of the Highway Code in promoting safe use of roads.
Speaking about the new content, Novadata Director Mark Lewin says: “It is essential that every driver is aware of the consequences of unsafe driving and poor driving conduct so that they can see how important it is to use best practice at all times.
“We have developed this course to provoke careful thought and discussion on the ways that both PCV and LGV drivers can increase or minimise road safety risks by their own driving behaviour.
“The content positively encourages improvements in driver behaviour and attitude, allowing drivers to understand that they, as individuals, can have a positive effect on road safety, helping to protect other road users and reduce accident rates.”
