Leicestershire operator Orbit Coaches has returned to Totalkare for an in-ground brake tester and a smoke meter to further improve its in-house maintenance capability.
The purchase follows procurement of three sets of T8AC cabled mobile column lifts by the Peckleton business from Totalkare since 2021. The equipment will serve a mixture of vehicles from 16-seat minibuses to 87-seat double-decker coaches.
The smoke meter is a DS2 XP-0 model. As a diagnostic tool, it will ensure correct maintenance of engines, with the cable-free device being accredited to Euro VI standards and meeting DVSA requirements. Its readout display provides data on smoke density and the efficiency of combustion within the engine.
A TK-7000 brake tester uses DVSA approved diagnostic software to present brake performance data. Totalkare offers various models that are compatible with axle loads of 7,000-20,000kg, with the product supplied to Orbit Coaches having a 13,000kg capacity.
Part of the brake tester are bidirectional rollers, a mobile tablet interface and a cover plate to minimise tyre damage. The supplier says that those combine to make the unit “both safe and efficient.” Testing can be conducted from the driver’s seat, with the equipment for Orbit having been installed as a standalone product to fit seamlessly into its workshop and maximise space utilisation.
Totalkare will support its products with Orbit via service contracts, LOLER inspections and calibration of the brake tester.
Orbit Coaches Managing Director Lee Chapman says that the investment in garage equipment furthers the business’s ability to ensure that its fleet is safe and well-maintained.
Adds Totalkare Area Sales Manager Jack Longstaff: “The Totalkare portfolio covers the entire workshop, and it is great to see a returning customer such as Orbit Coaches trusting Totalkare with both lifting and testing products to cover its large fleet.”
