Macedonian-built EX15H is 12.5m example of more cost-effective range of coaches launched in 2014
Arriva Bus and Coach (ABC) exhibited the first right-hand drive example of the Van Hool EX15H at last weekend’s UK Coach Rally in Blackpool.
Built in Skopje, Macedonia, the EX was launched by Van Hool at 2014’s IAA show in Germany and it represents a cost-effective alternative to the established Belgian-made EX range.
The EX15H is 12.5m long and to ABC’s standard specification it will seat 51 with a centre sunken toilet.
Pricing point
The price difference between an EX15H and a comparable member of the TX range is around £30,000, says ABC Head of Products Steve Fletcher.
“Our standard specification on the EX also includes a fridge and a DVD player with two monitors,” adds Mr Fletcher. Kiel seats are standard on the EX and Van Hool’s own seats, as fitted to the TX, are not available.
“I expect us to receive a number of 51-seat stock examples soon that are to the same configuration as the demonstrator, but straight 53-seaters will also be offered. The tri-axle 13.4m EX16H and 14.2m EX17H remain part of ABC’s line-up and all are also available built to order.”
Powered by DAF
Power across the EX range is from a DAF MX-11 engine rated at 435bhp driving through a ZF EcoLife automatic gearbox, although it is understood that an automated AS-Tronic option will be offered on the tri-axle models.
“Operators who need a bespoke coach that is built exactly to their specifications should remain with the TX range, but the EX is a cost-effective alternative in more mainstream applications,” adds Mr Fletcher.
Operators who spoke to routeone at the rally commented positively on the EX, particularly the standard of its paintwork and the framing workmanship in the luggage lockers.
Mr Fletcher has also revealed that the EX15H may be made available via ABC’s long-term rental fleet.
