Daimler Buses will debut solid-state batteries in the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro in Q3 2020. It promises 441kW/h of onboard energy storage with the new technology.
The manufacturer has now taken over 100 orders for the zero-emission eCitaro. Its current lithium ion batteries can hold a maximum of 292kW/h. A second generation of those will debut in 2021 that can accommodate up 396kW/h on the eCitaro.
Both of these developments will be followed in 2022 with a hydrogen fuel cell range extender, says Head of Daimler Buses Till Oberworder. The manufacturer recently delivered the 55,555th example of the Citaro range built, he adds.
Daimler Buses is also seeking to expand its service points’ ability to provide 3D printed parts for the Mercedes-Benz coach and bus range.
