Volvo has extended the engine-off capabilities of its hybrid buses, including the B5LH double-decker chassis.
All its hybrids can now achieve up to 50km/h in zero-emission mode. They are also able to cover a maximum of 1km in the same manner, depending on climate and topography. Previously the maximum speed attainable with the engine off was 20km/h.
The hybrid upgrade also includes Volvo Zone Management, a geofencing system. It allows the operator to programme the bus so that it automatically switches to zero emission mode within environmentally sensitive areas.
