Enviro500 makes European interurban debut

Alexander Dennis (ADL) launched the first European interurban class II variant of its tri-axle Enviro500 double-decker at Busworld.

The vehicle, part of an order for Swiss operator PostAuto, has 74 seats with three-point belts and room for 40 standees. It has three doors and two staircases, along with a fully flat lower deck floor. It is capable of 62mph.

ADL says the interurban Enviro500 delivers the lowest total cost of ownership per seat mile in its class. That is helped by a low unladen weight, which is up to 1,500kg below comparable coaches used in the same application.

When the order for PostAuto is complete ADL will have supplied 32 Enviro500s to Swiss operators. It will deliver the first of up to 450 Enviro500s to Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe in 2020.
