Arriva Cymru will introduce a Cymru Coastliner-branded CC12 coach service in North Wales for the peak summer season from 22 June.

It will run between Rhyl and Llandudno in less than an hour, serving coastal attractions along the way including Kinmel Bay, Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea. Railway stations at Abergele and Pensarn, Colwyn Bay and Rhyl are on the route, which will be the first local service to carry the Network North Wales logo, according to Arriva Cymru.

The route will operate until 25 August. Despite the Network North Wales representation, it will not accept standard Arriva Cymru or 1Bws tickets, although the operator says that holders of either can upgrade onboard.

Three Mercedes-Benz Tourismo coaches previously used by the group on the Greenline 757 service between Luton airport and central London are understood to have moved to North Wales for the work.

The Cymru Coastliner name can trace its origins back 60 years, having debuted on a long-distance service between Chester and Caernarfon. More recently it has been used by Arriva Cymru for various shorter interurban routes.

Head of Commercial Adam Marshall says that the CC12 “is a fantastic addition to our network for the summer, connecting communities and attractions across the North Wales coast.”

He adds: “We are really proud of what we have created for our customers with the Cymru Coastliner and we are looking forward to welcoming them onboard.”

Introduction of the coach service is “just one example of how we are looking to grow the network – offering people a genuine alternative to the car, which will help to ease congestion and support sustainable travel choices in North Wales,” Mr Marshall continues.

An adult all-day ticket for the CC12 will be £8, with children paying £5.30. Group offers are also available. Each of those products will also be valid on other Arriva Cymru routes.
