Garelochhead Coaches has added a Volvo B8L with MCV EvoSeti double-deck bodywork to its fleet, supplied by Volvo Bus UK and Ireland.
The dealership says the tri-axle bus is Scotland’s first bespoke example of the combination. It is a 98-seater and will operate in Argyll and Bute on a home-to-school route, removing the need for duplication of vehicles.
Three high-capacity Volvo coaches are already in the operator’s fleet. The B8L EvoSeti will also be used on private hire and other work outside school times, including large group travel, rail replacement, and support of events at the nearby Faslane Naval Base.
The bespoke specification includes under-seat lighting at aisle positions, moquette trim with leather headrest inserts in Garelochhead Coaches’ blue and neutral colour branding, three-point belts, and a glazed staircase.
In the cab is an air-suspended seat, a DAB radio and a PA system. Luggage racking is over the nearside front wheel, and to maximise utility for local service or rail replacement work, next-stop announcements and an induction loop are fitted.
Externally, the bus is in the operator’s customary metallic blue and it has a tree guard to protect the upper windscreen. Power is from the D8K engine developing 350bhp coupled to a ZF EcoLife automatic gearbox.
Speaking about the delivery, Transport Manager Keith Shand says: “The support offered by Volvo Buses is unmatched, and we have a really strong relationship with the team there – that is what keeps us coming back.
“Other than the service we receive from our local dealer, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North and Scotland, the vehicles themselves are fantastic. We have had some great feedback from our drivers about how the B8L EvoSeti is to drive.
“Our customers are also really pleased that they can transport big groups within one vehicle, especially for our school contracts.”
