Transport UK London Bus is a further operator in the capital to place the Alexander Dennis Enviro100EV battery-electric small bus into service, with 13 having been delivered for route G1 between Battersea and Streatham.
The 8.5m long, 2.35m wide vehicles are well suited to that service, which serves narrow streets and housing estates. They each have 354kWh of battery capacity coupled to the Voith Electrical Drive System to give what the manufacturer says is “ample operational range.” Battersea depot is home to the new fleet.
Transport for London (TfL) Director of Buses Lorna Murphy observes that the Enviro100EV demonstrates “the very best of British manufacturing” and meets the design challenge of being able to tackle the G1 route with a zero-emission vehicle. Over 25% of the TfL bus fleet is now battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell-electric, she adds.
Transport UK London Bus Fleet and Facilities Director Paul Hennigan notes how the Enviro100EV additions quickly generated positive feedback from staff at the operator.
“Our drivers appreciate the well-designed cab environment and enjoy the smooth driveline, which helps to deliver an excellent passenger experience,” he comments.
“From an engineering perspective, the bus is well designed and creatively makes superb use of space. Manufacturer support has also been first rate, and the company looks forward to operating these vehicles over the coming years.”
Alexander Dennis says that monitoring of the buses’ in-service energy consumption via the AD Connect telematics platform has shown it to be in line with prior modelling.
National Account Manager Neil Gladstone adds: “We are grateful to have been chosen by Transport UK London Bus to supply the new fleet for route G1 and delighted that these new Enviro100EV buses are meeting the expectations for our customer.
“We look forward to continuing to support the Transport UK London Bus team with insights from our AD Connect telematics to allow them to maximise availability, efficiency and reliability of the fleet.
“Our Enviro100EV is perfect for this kind of TfL route, and it is great to see them bringing accessible, zero-emission transport to communities in south London.”
