Officers and staff from Cumbria Police raised over £30,000 for the Trust

Officers and staff from Cumbria Police have raised over £30,000 towards a new accessible minibus for the Calvert Trust, a charity that provides disabled people with outdoor activities in the countryside.

The vehicle, which the Trust says is essential for the work that it does, has also benefited from money raised by the Friends of the Calvert Trust. It will be used to ensure that disabled visitors can travel to and from the Trust’s various centres.

A cheque was presented by Chief Constable Michelle Skeer earlier this year. Officers and staff from the force took part in a variety of fundraising challenges and many also gave up their time to help with maintenance work at the Trust’s Keswick centre.

Others collected money at events around the county, and a fashion show staged in Carlisle raised over £1,000. Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall, meanwhile, completed the Great North Run.

He says: “I am delighted that our officers and staff did such a tremendous job in raising funds for the Calvert Trust. To know that, through our partnership, more people will be able to enjoy our beautiful county is very rewarding.”
