The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has announced Aaron Hill as its new Director of Partnerships and CPT Cymru as the trade body reshapes its approach to influencing local policy.
As of 1 January, Mr Hill takes on the newly created post while continuing to have executive oversight in his CPT Cymru role.
CPT is recruiting for a new Head of CPT Cymru to support Mr Hill in leading strategic engagement with the Welsh Government.
In his new position, Mr Hill will lead CPT’s partnerships and regional engagement across England. Working closely with members and strategic partners, he will build relationships with local authorities to assist with local decision-making relating to coach and bus.
The appointment comes at a key juncture following the passing into law in October 2025 of the Bus Services Act, which will grant local authorities more powers over bus services.
In conjunction with CPT’s new bus reform handbook, Models for delivery of local bus networks, Mr Hill will seek to ensure that the interests of the industry are best represented in local decision-making.
However, his role will not be limited to the area of regulatory policy and he is keen to assist local leaders in applying best practice for coach and bus by using data from the best-performing areas.
The new post will also free up CPT’s regional managers to devote more time to shaping coach policy at that level, highlights Mr Hill.
He says: “I am delighted to be taking on this role at a time when effective partnership working is more important than ever.
“Buses and coaches play a vital role in supporting economic growth, improving connectivity and driving decarbonisation across every part of the UK.
“I look forward to working with our members and partners across the regions to strengthen CPT’s collective voice.”
Mr Hill joined CPT in 2023, having previously been Director of Policy with the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations.
Graham Vidler, Chief Executive of CPT, adds: “Aaron has made a significant contribution during his time leading CPT Cymru and brings strong policy insight and trusted relationships to this new role.
“His appointment underlines CPT’s commitment to deepening engagement across the UK and ensuring regional perspectives shape our work.”
