Boxing Day brought a record-breaking passenger bonanza for National Express Coach as part of a busy festive period that saw nearly 750,000 journeys taken on its UK network.
The more than 74,000 passenger journeys on its vehicles on 26 December made it the busiest single day in the company’s history.
National Express Coach says Christmas Day also saw more passengers than ever before carried on that date by its vehicles.
The company says the total number of passenger journeys taken across its UK network over the 2018 festive period was 15% up on 2017 levels.
To meet demand, it added 76,000 extra seats onto services, which was 22,000 more than the previous year. It says these extra services “offered a lifeline” to festive travellers facing widespread disruption on large parts of the rail network.
“With families more spread out than ever before and an increasing number of people working over the Christmas period, demand for coach travel at this time keeps getting stronger,” says Chris Hardy, National Express Coach’s Managing Director.
