The event saw the launch of the 31 buses – 10 double-deck ADL Enviro400s and 21 single-deck Enviro200s – in Hull city centre, where the public enjoyed games, prizes, free bus tickets and a preview of the buses that will be delivered through summer.
Stagecoach took the opportunity to plug the green credentials of the Euro 6 buses, with stop-start technology, plus the environmental benefits of taking the bus instead of the car.
The buses also have audio/visual next stop announcements.
Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, says: “We needed to raise the awareness of Clean Air Day and the issue of air pollution.
“Encouraging people to take the bus is key to reducing the number of cars; one full bus can take up to 75 cars off the road.”
