The Oxford Bus Company won the Oxfordshire High Sheriff’s Sporting Challenge after a team of colleagues competed in a series of contests.

More than 20 Oxfordshire companies competed in the event aimed at encouraging local workforces to improve their health and well-being.

The ‘Oxlympics’ challenge was set by Oxfordshire High Sheriff, Richard Venables, to provide fun and engaging events over several months.

The activities enabled staff to raise money for charity, with Oxford Bus Company’s 10 runners in the Oxford Town and Gown contributed towards helping to raise £135,000 towards new research into treatments for muscle-wasting conditions.

Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company MD, says: “The High Sheriff’s Sporting Challenge has been a fantastic experience for everyone who took part. It really has bought colleagues together and encouraged us all to lead more active and healthy lifestyles which can only be a good thing.

Richard Venables added: “This event has raised over £150,000 which will be distributed to a number of Oxfordshire youth-based charities, including Access Sport Oxford which has already encouraged over 2,500 children from East Oxford to engage in sport.”
